Swing adsorption

Swing adsorption allows effectively solving problems of:

  • pure nitrogen production (99,995% purity) from atmospheric air
  • production of 95% pure oxygen from atmospheric air
  • release of hydrogen from nitrogen-hydrogen mixture
  • removal of excess moisture and impurities from gas mixtures
    and other production tasks.

This technology is based on the property of some materials to accumulate molecules of some gases on the surface layer of the substance (adsorbent) and freely pass molecules of other gases.

Undoubted advantage of swing adsorption technology is simplicity and moderate cost of the solution in comparison with cryogenic technology.
Standard adsorption cycle on the example of dual-adsorber unit with hot regeneration is as follows:
Adsorbers operation is cyclical – one adsorber is in operating condition (adsorbs gas impurities molecules flowing though it), another adsorber is in regeneration state. The flow of gas entering the adsorbers switches with electric cranes according to the unit control program.
When the first adsorber is in operation (in adsorption state), the second adsorber is in regeneration state and then the adsorbent is cooled. Hot regeneration gas after flowing thought the second adsorber necessarily passes though the filters of regeneration gas and cooling devises (air-coolers and heat exchangers). After the end of cooling cycle, the second adsorber switches to the operating state and the first adsorber – to the regeneration state. Adsorber’s operation mode changes automatically – according to the cyclogram, or according to the cycle of the gas purity gauge at the outlet, installed after the block of output filters.
